My Favorite Place: Our Monastery Huize Bijdorp

Where: Veurseweg 3, Voorschoten

Why: This place is my favorite place, mainly because of the atmosphere and the unique location of the terrain with the colossal trees in which you imagine yourself in a large forest. When you arrive at the site, you will be touched by the serene tranquility, in which you are absorbed in the silence that becomes tangible through the sounds of birds and the rustling of the leaves.

Our Monastery used to be a farmer's homestead that has grown into a country estate with a country house, which was later developed into our mother house with a novitiate. A lot of work was done by them at the boarding school, the school and the farm and bakery.

Walking through the grass.
Listening and feeling the wet crop.
On a weekday.
Fast as a running kid.
Dancing and carried by the wind.
Lightly touched by a blade of grass.
Trembling like a straw.
Endearing sense of fertile times.
Melting by the sun, the grass makes itself happy.
The morning dew leaves drops… drops splashing in their flight.
Through a wonderfully clear blue sky, they interpret.
Space, peace and quiet…
