My Favorite Place: Plein, Wassenaar

Where: Between the Storm van 's-Gravensandeweg (entrance Duinrell) and the Langstraat, near the Dorpskerk

Why: The Plein used to be literally the center of the village. Around the village pump, the water pump, and the bandstand present at that time, the population met, parties took place and the latest news was exchanged. (From book by Frans Micklinghoff) Around the Plein are a number of beautiful buildings, such as the Dorpskerk, Het Baljuwhuis and the Regthuys (now restaurant Boho). The Plein is still the heart of the village, the gateway for tourists from Duinrell to the shops. Since Boho operates a terrace around the pump, it has an almost foreign feel, under the old trees, surrounded by beautiful buildings. It feels like a piece of undiscovered Wassenaar, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
