My Favorite Place: View of the valley from the Atlantikwall

Where: Pan van Persijn, Spring Joy

Why: I recently remigrated with my family after years of wandering and came to live in Wassenaar. To bind to a place, you need a place where you can store everything.

• In Vienna it was the bird on the ceiling of the Catholic St. Peter Kirche.
• In Dakar (Senegal), the steaming view from the lighthouse on the Mamelles.
• In the hectic Manhattan the calm of the hidden river 'the Gill' in Central Park
• and in Cuba I found it in the sea view from a concrete block.

Between Wassenaar and Katwijk I found it in the view over Lentevreugd from the Atlantikwal. It touches the emotion of being in a place where the view is so wide and where the heaviness of history weaves together with the decay of today. When during sunset the colors pink and purple warm the landscape like a blanket over the timeless slow grazing of the four-legged friends in the valley.
